Margret E. Lecocke, Attorney
"My parents knew from the time I was little that I was going to be a lawyer," Margret Lecocke says with a smile. "When I was about 5, I asked my mom why grocery stores sell Easter baskets if the Easter Bunny makes and delivers baskets the night before Easter. I guess I've always had a knack for questioning things."
A decade and a half later, Margret graduated from Columbia University in New York with a BA in English. "I have always loved to read. Books, magazines, newspapers, menus; I will read anything. Grammar and literature were my favorite subjects in high school. They were organic for me." Although Margret contemplated journalism school, she decided to fulfill her parents' prediction first. "There's plenty of time for journalism. It will be my second career."
From Columbia, Margret went to the University of Houston Law Center. "My parents' opinion aside, practicing law fits my strength, and luckily, the activities I love most: reading, writing, and editing."
Margret also enjoys the challenge of practicing law. "I am lucky enough to exercise my brain everyday. There is a new question or complication every half hour. It's fascinating and frustrating, but that combination makes it consistently fresh. I am never bored. My cases span a wide range of subjects, from pharmaceuticals to scaffolding to motor vehicle accidents, so I am constantly learning about a new trade or science."
"Without a doubt though, the fact that I actually get to guide people through life-altering problems is the real reward at the end of each day. That is the underlying goal here, it is why we practice. This firm is dedicated to protecting our clients' rights, and because we all share a common goal, we work WITH each another and not against each other. When you have that harmony, everyone benefits, especially our clients. Our clients become part of our family and we are fortunate enough to become a part of theirs."
When she isn't reading or working, Margret is often baking or boxing. "I'll do anything active. I just like to stay in motion when I'm not at work." Margret's charitable endeavors include National Public Radio (NPR) and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
