Lamar County, MS expected to receive 45 mil from BP

Records of BP Deepwater Horizon Court Supervised Settlement Program (CSSP) show that a total of 137 businesses and individuals in Lamar County, Mississippi have already filed economic loss claims with the London-based oil giant.

The settlement program started evaluating claims on June 4, 2012 and will tentatively continue with the process until the spring of 2015.

CSSP has yet to set the claim filing deadline. Officials are encouraging businesses and individuals who may have been affected by the April 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill to undergo eligibility evaluation for compensation packages as soon as possible.

Should BP pay all 137 claims and no further claims are added to the list, Lamar County will be receiving $45,000,000 within the next two years. Six claims have been paid to date; individual settlements are averaging $333,000.
