Champix Lawyer, Champix Lawsuit

Champix (varenicline) was approved for human use in September 2006, as a stop-smoking medication. Today (12/14/07), the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) issued a press release concluding that updated warnings should be given to doctors and patients regarding suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), as part of its routine pharmacovigilance activities, analyzes all adverse reactions for Champix on a regular basis. In December 2007, the CHMP concluded that warnings should be given to doctors and patients regarding reports of depression, including suicidal ideation and suicide attempts, in patients taking Champix.
The CHMP has requested that Pfizer (the manufacturer of Champix) submit a variation to the marketing authorization before December 19, 2007 to implement changes to the product information label. The EMEA will closely monitory this issue and will take appropriate action, if necessary.
