HPD Officer Lloyd "Beaver" Morrison

Houston police officer and Williams Kherkher client Lloyd "Beaver" Morrison, an 18-year veteran on the force, received the Star of Texas Award from Governor Rick Perry on September 11.

Since 2003, the award has honored peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who have been seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

Officer Morrison's story is both tragic and inspiring. He was investigating an automobile accident on the Gulf Freeway in Houston over Memorial Day weekend earlier this year when he was struck by two alleged drunk drivers.

Officer Morrison sustained serious and life-threatening injuries. He underwent multiple surgeries, and his doctors told him he would never walk again. But through it all, he maintained his optimism and good spirits, refusing to give up on making a full recovery.

"It's truly a miracle that Beaver survived the multiple collisions. The reports and photographs are bone-chilling. To live through that and not only have the will to fight through the recovery process, but to do it with a smile on his face, and optimism in his heart is inspirational," says Williams Kherkher attorney Margret Lecocke. "We're just so proud to represent Beaver. He dedicated his life to protecting and helping Houstonians, and we're so grateful to be able to do the same for him now."

And Officer Morrison's tenacity is paying off. Despite the predictions of doctors, he is well on the way to recovering the ability to walk. Click2Houston.com reports:
