Houston Attorney Receives Award Named for Famed Attorney Clarence Darrow

Williams Kherkher Hart Boundas, LLP, announced today that Houston Attorney, John Eddie Williams, Jr. received the Clarence Darrow Award at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada October 23, 2008. The Darrow Award, named for famed attorney Clarence Darrow who may be best known for his role in the Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925 and depicted later by Spencer Tracy in the film Inherit the Wind, is given to attorneys who have demonstrated conviction in their work and exceptional courage in the face of adversity. The award is given out every year by Florida attorney and radio talk show host Mike Papantonio. Past recipients include John O'Quinn, John Romano and Geoffery Feiger.

John Eddie Williams, Jr., a native of Houston, is the managing partner of Williams Kherkher Hart Boundas, LLP. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor of business administration degree from Baylor University, then entered Baylor School of Law, where he graduated first in his class. Reared in a union family, Mr. Williams' grandfather was a union longshoreman, and his father was a leader in the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast Longshoreman's Union for many years. Mr. Williams is a strong advocate of workers and organized labor, representing members and their causes at every opportunity.

He has specialized in representing plaintiffs in mass tort cases involving asbestos, silicosis, benzene, fen-phen, Vioxx, welding rod fumes and toxic waste exposure. He represented the state of Texas in its lawsuit against the tobacco industry, resulting in a $17 billion settlement – the largest in U.S. history.
