Copper Plant Explosion Kills 1, Injures 3 More

An explosion at a copper plant in Fulton, Mississippi left an Alabama man dead and at least three other people injured.

Local officials confirmed that the blast, which occurred around 4 PM Wednesday, July 29th at the Mueller Copper Tube plant, claimed the life of 29-year-old Phillip Cason Hosch and injured three others. No details of the other victims’ conditions were available.

In addition to the Copper Tube plant, Mueller Industries also runs three other manufacturing plants in the area: Mueller Custom Fittings, Mueller Casting, and Mueller Custom pack.

According to John Hansen, president of manufacturing operations at Mueller Industries, the explosion occurred when a fire was ignited at the plant during maintenance. The plant was evacuated after the explosion and the fire extinguished shortly afterward.

Wednesday’s death was the third fatality at the Mueller plant since 2008.

Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident.
