Uncontrollable Acceleration
While there is a debate over the exact cause of the sudden and uncontrollable acceleration, there is no doubt about the seriousness of the problem. At least 19 people have died in accidents caused by Toyotas suddenly accelerating, and well over 200 people have been injured. While Toyota initially claimed that the problem was due to improperly fitted floor mats, a recall of nearly 4.2 million vehicles did little to stop growing number of complaints. A second recall of 2.3 million vehicles has also failed to correct the issue.
