Jury finds BP negligent in Texas emissions event
A Galveston jury found BP PLC negligent and responsible for an emissions event that took place for 41 days in 2010. A unanimous decision stated that while it was indeed BP PLC that caused the pollution, there was a lack of evidence to conclude that the technical problems at the Texas City refinery made people ill.
BP has faced several lawsuits, including the ultracracker flare, among other repeated violations in the refinery in 2010 and a 15-day gas leak in 2011 – all these aside from the major oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico.
The emissions case reached its verdict after two days and three hours.
