Sugar heightens the risk of having a heart attack
A recent study confirmed that excessive sugar intake heightens the risk of having a heart attack, an article by the Washington Informer stated on February 10.
In the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), people had a 38 percent risk of dying from a heart attack if the 17 to 21 percent of calories they ate daily came from added sugar. The study said that people who consumed more sugar are at a four times greater risk of having a heart attack compared to those who consume less sugar.
The American Heart Association advised that women only eat a maximum of six teaspoons of sugar a day, while men should only consume nine teaspoons of sugar a day.
The study was published in accordance with American Heart Month.
