John Eddie Williams Jr., Managing Partner at Williams Kherkher, was recently named to the 2014 Texas Super Lawyers list. This honor is given to attorneys who exhibit excellence in practice and is determined by a rigorous selection process that includes peer review. John Eddie Williams, Jr. to become Chair of Houston Bar Foundation

On February 25, the Houston Bar Foundation will hold its annual luncheon at the Four Seasons. At this event, John Eddie Williams, Jr., Managing Partner for Williams Kherkher, will become the 2014 chair for this important foundation.

The Houston Bar Foundation is the charitable branch of the Houston Bar Association, and is committed to helping individuals in need throughout the Houston area. Founded in 1982, the Houston Bar Foundation supports programs that provide legal aid to communities and individuals in need, that help encourage understanding of the legal system, and that fight for justice.

John Eddie and Sheridan Williams Make Annual Goodfellows Contribution

John Eddie Williams, founding partner at Williams Kherkher, and his wife Sheridan Williams recently presented the Houston Chronicle’s Goodfellows program with their annual contribution of $200,000. The program, which helps to give toys to families that might not otherwise be able to afford them during the holiday season, has been in operation for more than a century and has helped to bring holiday cheer to countless families in the Houston area.

John Eddie and Sheridan have been steadfast supporters of the Chronicle’s Goodfellows program for more than a decade, having contributed more than $1.6 million to the program over that time. In 2008, the couple made what was then the largest donation in the toy drive’s 97 year history, and they have been making donations at the same level every year since.

John Eddie Williams Elected Chairman of Houston Bar Foundation

John Eddie Williams has recently been elected to the position of Chairman of the Houston Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Houston Bar Association. Founded in 1982, the Houston Bar Foundation has helped to provide Houston residents with a wide range of services. Sustained by the contributions of its supporting Fellows, the Foundation seeks to make a difference in the Houston community.

The Houston Bar Foundation supports a wide range of programs to help low-income individuals find access to legal representation and to provide education about the legal system to people in the Houston community. Among the most important of these programs are grants to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers, which provides pro bono advice and representation to indigent Houstonians; the Juvenile Justice Mock Trial program, which works with Houston area schools to teach teens about the criminal justice system; and the Historic Document Preservation Project, which aims to preserve historically significant judicial records for future generations.

John Eddie Williams Jr. Honored by HPOA

At yesterday’s monthly Houston Police Officers Association (HPOA) meeting, John Eddie Williams Jr. was honored by HPOA President Ray Hunt. Williams was honored for being the most generous donor to an effort to raise money for the family of police officer Hans Wagner who died in September 2012 from injuries he suffered in a car accident a few months before. At the meeting, Hunt presented Williams with a plaque that reads: “With Appreciation and Gratitude The Men and Women of the Houston Police Department Would like to Thank John Eddie Williams Jr. For Your Dedication and Support In Honoring the Memory of Fallen Police Officer Hans Wagner.”
