New study reveals flu shots minimize heart attack risk

A new study from the University of Toronto revealed that having a flu shot may cut the risk of having another heart attack and/or stroke by more than half.

According to cardiologist Jacob Udell, who is also the lead author of the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), researchers have identified that flu shots can also be used as a way to prevent heart attacks for those who have a history of the medical condition. Udell explained that flu shots that prevent inflammation and other side effects of the flu can also prevent the heart from being strained, which is what often leads to cardiac arrest.

Unfortunately, certain birth controls, including Yaz and Yasmin, have been found to actually increase a person’s risk of having a heart attack. If you have suffered from a heart attack or other health problems due to these dangerous medications, call (888) 220-0640. You can discuss your situation with a lawyer from Williams Kherkher and find out how we may be able to help you.

Jury finds BP negligent in Texas emissions event

A Galveston jury found BP PLC negligent and responsible for an emissions event that took place for 41 days in 2010. A unanimous decision stated that while it was indeed BP PLC that caused the pollution, there was a lack of evidence to conclude that the technical problems at the Texas City refinery made people ill.

BP has faced several lawsuits, including the ultracracker flare, among other repeated violations in the refinery in 2010 and a 15-day gas leak in 2011 – all these aside from the major oil spill that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico.

The emissions case reached its verdict after two days and three hours.

Unfortunately, the BP oil spill caused serious damage to both individuals and businesses. If you have been harmed by this disaster, our lawyers from Williams Kherkher can help you explore your options for pursuing a claim. Call us at (888) 220-0640 to find out how we can help.

Birth defects linked to Zoloft

Like most antidepressants, taking Zoloft while you are pregnant can have profound adverse effects on your baby. Research also shows that if you have already started taking an antidepressant and stopped, chances are, your baby has been affected.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Some of the documented birth defects it can cause include several congenital heart defects, anencephaly, and omphalocele. The New England Journal of Medicine specifically stated that Zoloft can have the following birth defects:

  • Anal atresia – anus is missing or in the wrong place
  • Limb reductions – poorly developed, missing, or deformed limb(s)
  • Club foot – limits the ability to walk

Any of these serious, possibly fatal birth defects can cause life-long complications for your child. To get the justice and compensation you might be owed due to the use of the dangerous drug Zoloft, call a lawyer from Williams Kherkher at (888) 220-0640.

Common signs of a heart attack

Heart attacks can occur suddenly and without much warning for many people. This serious and often fatal health problem can be the result of many different health issues, but is sometimes, sadly, caused by the use of the birth control pills Yasmin and Yaz.

When a person suffers from a heart attack, they may or may not display signs. However, if they do, they might exhibit the following:

  • Recurring pain in the center or left side of their chest that may be mild or severe and may last for several minutes
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pain in the arms, shoulders, back, and other parts of the upper body

At Williams Kherkher, our lawyers help people who have suffered heart attacks and other health issues as a result of Yaz use to pursue legal action against the negligent manufacturer. Find out how we may be able to help you by calling (888) 220-0640 today.

Complications associated with congenital heart defects

If not detected or treated immediately, congenital heart defects, which are defects in the heart or surrounding blood vessels, may lead to more serious complications. Some of these complications can include:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Problems gaining weight
  • Respiratory issues such as pneumonia and other infections
  • Cyanosis, a condition in which blood with rich and poor oxygen mixed together in their heart affects the color of the skin
  • In rare occasions, children with untreated heart defects may have a stroke if the blood clots block the veins in the heart and brain

The lawyers at Williams Kherkher work to help the families of children who developed congenital heart defects as a result of the use Zoloft during pregnancy. As this drug has been shown to be unreasonably dangerous, its manufacturer may possibly be held responsible for the losses a family sustains Call (888) 220-0640 today to find out how we may be able to help you.

Yaz and Yasmin caused miscarriages, according to woman in New Orleans

A New Orleans woman is seeking $10 million in damages, claiming she had suffered miscarriages after ingesting the popular birth control pills Yasmin and Yaz, according to an article published by the Louisiana Record on Tuesday, October 8.

According to the lawsuit filed by Debbie Caine Matthews against drug maker Bayer and Berlex Inc., ingestion of Yasmin and Yaz birth control pills caused her heavy bleeding and miscarriages. Debbie started taking the pills in 2007 and had suffered two miscarriages in 2008 and in 2011, the suit stated.

The plaintiff is claiming that Bayer wrongfully and deliberately did not release the information that Yasmin and Yaz pills have dangerous side effects unlike other birth control pills available. Debbie is seeking to recover medical expenses, loss of income, and other damages that were caused by her suffering from using Yasmin and Yaz.

Unfortunately, Yasmin and Yaz birth control pills have been shown to cause serious health problems for the women who take them. If this is the case for you or to a loved one, you may be able to seek compensation from the manufacturer with the help of the legal team at Williams Kherkher. What to expect after craniosynostosis surgery

Since craniosynostosis surgery is a very critical operation that involves surgery on the infant’s skull, extreme care should be followed to ensure a proper recovery and to prevent any other complications from possibly arising.

After the surgery, the infant will have to stay for a couple of days at the hospital or surgical center where he or she can be monitored closely by doctors. Mild pain and swelling around the eyes is commonly experienced after the surgery for a couple of days. To ensure proper development of the skull, the patient will have to undergo a series of check-ups that may be scheduled every six weeks. Once the patient reaches the age of six, they may need to undergo annual check-up.

BP makes another request to suspend settlement payments

BP requested another temporary suspension of settlement payments owed to residents and businesses along the Gulf Coast on Monday. The basis for their request lies in apparent misconduct within the payment program.

Though the misconduct within the claims department proved to be true, Louis Freeh, former FBI Director, said there was no reason for the settlement payments to be temporarily discontinued.

BP has previously requested on two separate occasions a suspension of settlement payments. Both requests were denied by U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier. It has not been said yet whether Barbier will approve this third request or not.

If you were affected by the Gulf of Mexico BP oil spill, you may be eligible to receive compensation for your losses.
