A group of medical experts will be investigating the effectiveness of nutrients in dark chocolates for preventing heart attacks and strokes, an article from Fox News stated on March 17.
The study, which will be headed by Chief Doctor JoAnn Manson, will test 18,000 men and women in the U.S. to discover the health benefits of cocoa flavanols that are found in dark chocolates. In the study, the participants will randomly be given a cocoa flavanols capsule or placebo for four years; however, researchers will not know who is receiving the cocoa flavanols.
In some earlier research, cocoa flavanols were found to improve conditions that can affect the heart.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, in conjunction with some well-known chocolate makers, will sponsor the study.
