Houston — Woman Brutally Beaten After Night Out

A Houston woman was brutally beaten after a night out on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
According to reports, Rachel Busch met up with Donovan Micah Jones, 24, with a few of her friends on January 16, two weeks after they first met in a Montrose coffee shop. Busch said that the two of them exchanged a few drinks, and then Jones offered to let her crash on his couch. She refused, pushing him away, but then Jones just suddenly started attacking her until she was unconscious. He broke her cranial bone, the orbital bone, her palate, cheekbones, jawbones, and several teeth.
Busch does not remember much about this attack as she was unconscious. She does not even know if she was raped and is still waiting on the results of the rape kit. All she remembers is waking up on the sidewalk outside, lying in her own blood.
Busch was in the hospital for a week and needed surgery to reconstruct her face. Meanwhile, Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Additionally, Houston Police say that its special victims unit is investigating this as a sexual assault.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to Rachel Busch. Alas, she is only one of the very many women whose lives are affected by an aggravated/sexual assault. Violence against women is a serious issue in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen. In 2005, it was reported that there were 1,181 women who were murdered by an intimate partner. This number suggested that an average of three women die every day.
Moreover, two other kinds of violent acts against women that are alarmingly common are domestic violence and sexual violence. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control reports that women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year, and less than 20% of battered women seek medical treatment after an injury. The National Crime Victimization Survey also notes that 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006, which suggests that more than 600 women were raped every day. All these numbers indeed paint a dire picture indeed.
Violent acts against women are undeniably devastating to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers out there who specialize in cases like these.
