Posted on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015 at 2:28 pm

The correlation between pancreatitis and diabetes mellitus has once again been confirmed by new research, but with a twist – scientists have found that the risk of developing diabetes is much more severe for those with pancreatitis, and visa-versa.

The study involved 127 patients who have suffered and survived from a pancreatitis attack. Of the 127 participants, 28 of them developed diabetes either during index admission or during the course of the follow up. Researchers further found that patients with more severe pancreatitis attacks were at higher risk of developing diabetes.
