Study found one less sugary beverage a day reduces diabetes risk

A U.K. study of more than 25,000 respondents found that cutting just one sugary beverage a day might reduce your risk of diabetes by up to a quarter percent, Medical News Today stated on May 2.

According to the study, replacing one serving of soft drink with water, tea, or coffee may cut down the risk of diabetes by 14%. On the other hand, replacing one serving of sweetened milk beverage may reduce diabetes risk by up to 25%. The study further revealed that your risk of diabetes may increase up to 18% for every 5% increase in daily energy intake of sugary beverages.

Diabetes is a chronic health condition that may significantly reduce one’s quality of life. Unfortunately, sugary beverages are not the only cause of diabetes. The atypical antipsychotic drug Risperdal, for instance, has also been associated with the development of this disease.
