Texas City — Train Hits And Kills Teenager
Posted on Thursday, February 14th, 2019 at 4:16 am
A 15-year-old high school student was killed after he was hit by a train in Texas City on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
According to police reports, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Jason Trevino Jr., 15, was riding his bike along Oak Street when he tried to cross the tracks even though the train gave a warning signal not to do so. As a result, he was struck, and he was brought to UTMB in Galveston where he later died, unfortunately.
It is terrible to hear of the death of Jason Trevino Jr. Sadly, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a train accident. An accident involving a train is a particular kind of vehicular accident, and though it is not as common as the other kinds, it can still be quite deadly. The National Transportation Safety Bureau has reported that almost every 2 hours, a person or a vehicle is hit by a train in the United States. A few of the common scenarios in this kind of vehicular accident include derailment, train-train collisions, train-car collisions, train-person collisions, and damage to property.
Studies have shown that nearly 1,000 people die every year in the U.S. due to a train accident.
Furthermore, another particular kind of vehicular accident is a bicycle accident, and it is one that is more common than anyone is inclined to think. In fact, the NHTSA reports that roughly 677 people died and about 38,000 were injured in bicycle crashes in 2011. However, since bicycle riders are not required to register their bicycles or get a license, the number of fatalities and injuries may actually be bigger. Additionally, about 90% of all bicycle injuries are never officially reported by police agencies. Because of this, the exact percentage of bicycle accidents, fatalities and injuries because of bicycle accidents will be difficult to determine.
Vehicular accidents, especially train and bicycle accidents, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. They can also be quite complicated. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in train accidents/bicycle accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
